You can buy amazing flowers here in Mexico City. Large, small, rare, common, all colors and shapes, and, many for a fraction of the price as you would in the States or in Europe. There is a HUGE flower market here about 40 minutes from my house. My neighbor goes once a week to fill her many huge vases throughout her 6,000 sq ft home. I have one hobnail vase that was my Granny-pannies and 3 mason jars, so when I was invited to go with her, my idea of what I would by was substantially smaller than my neighbor's, and I was just excited to take pictures.
gardenia bouquets for 2.50 (or 30 pesos)
garlic flowers
Roses are about 5 dollars (or 50 pesos) a dozen
Catholicism and Christianity are staples to the Mexican culture, even at the flower market there are alters and shrines for Jesus
this little senor dude is making a fun flower sculpture
One part of the flower market has fresh vegetables and fruits, dried chilis, moles and spices. Here is an old mole stand that I found out has been in the family for many generations. Big clay bowls hold a variety of moles and chilis, you scoop out what you want.
I can't wait to go again one day soon!
