well, hey....

Hi there....I unpacked the LAST box the other day...We moved from southern Florida to southern Nevada. My girls have made friends already, I couldn't be happier for them. With every move, I always stress heavily that they'll be upset or that aclimating will be difficult. Then things turn out okay, they make friends, join volleyball teams, take cooking and art lessons and are excited to see new places. Dave is happy in his new postition, he is still traveling a bit, but feels really good about all he's doing. I am enjoying buying new knick knacks and decorating our new home and feeling at home in our new space.  I hope to be around more, get back to crafting and maybe blogging? 

So I'll try to be around more. I'll try to blog.  I'll try to read others blogs more often.  I'll try. But no promises. You know me.

Hi there all, how are you?

I've been using this kit a lot, which is not like me. I have a hard time sticking to just one kit. Here, the Studio Calico Storybook kit is mostly what I have, then I used a picture I snapped a few weeks ago of my fave chair and crocheted throw.

Do you have a "style" of your place?

I'm feeling rather festive here in south Florida.  Minus the weirdness of December and it's 76 degrees, I am loving being back in the States for the holidays. The girls, Dave and I have gone looking at Xmas light  shows, gone to see Xmas movies and have made a couple batches of holiday cookies and treats.

I have more pictures and I'll post them later!  Are you decorating for your holidays?  I'd love to see pictures!

Terrarium love; deserted beach

I made another terrarium, this one with a long-legged air plant, white sand, a sea fan and small and medium sized shells. I have been creating others and think these will make such fun gifts to teachers and friends.

 

The air plant doesn't have roots in soil, they get all their water and nutrients from the air.  Since we live in humid Florida, I would imagine this plant would do very well outside, but inside, especially with the A/C pumping, I have to soak it in water once a week. Hope everyone is having a good start to the weekend!

toffee magazine

I was beyond honored when Toffee Magazine asked me to do a couple crafts for their second issue. Toffee is a fabulous magazine with beautiful photography, crafts, cooking, current trends, eye candy galore, free downloadables and articles from Indie Artists and Crafters.  They are sort of a Martha meets Frankie love child (with DIY as an Uncle) kind of magazine. I highly recommend you check them out and get a subscription!!

They sent me a file of their lovely Spring papers to make something spring-y...I made these two projects, a paper cone with a little bird, ready to be displayed for spring or Easter. Chirp, chirp... 

 
and an Easter card, complete with a vintage Bunny cupcake topper.

 
Both are super simple crafts, just perfect for quick Spring decorating. You are able to download for FREE all their super sweet and beautiful papers here!!!  Go and take a look at them, I promise you won't be disappointed.

With the chilly weather I love the idea od wrapping up in a fuzzy blanket, listening to music, eating warm veggie soup with a crunchy roll and flipping through a favorite magazine...we are also thinking about furniture when we move back to the US.  We need a new living room set.  So, on a chilly day like today, I'm thinking this to lay on...

feather your nest; cupcake holder

I remember my Granny had a similar cake holder as this.  It was red and white striped with a metal clasp/handle. I don't bake cakes as much as I bake cupcakes, let's face it, cupcakes are the cutest, most convenient, don't over-do it mini cakes. I'd like to carry this to the next bake-sale and smugly reveal my frosted minicakes underneath the pretty decorated tin top. What about you?

When I was in Ohio just a few short weeks ago, I heard a phrase I guess is a midwest term.  Growing up on the west coast, and living the last 4 years (before Mexico) in Philadelphia, I'd never heard the phrase "feather your nest."  I thought it was so sweet.  Whenever I look at different home decor magazines or online zines, I think it explains perfectly our desire to make our homes our own.  Many of the people whose blogs I follow, or who follow mine, can relate.  That's why we follow each other, we all seem to have a passion for the aesthetic; vintage, modern, retro, simplistic, bold, subtle, whatever, we seem to like home decor, fashion, crafting, home-nesting.

I love this cherry red students desk.  I had an olive green one just like it growing up in the "play room" at my dear ol' Granny's house. I spent hours drawing and doing homework sitting on that cold, metal seat.  But I loved it.  If I lived back in the States, I might think about buying this for my girls, or for me.
